There is no grand mystery to rock music. It's dumb. And it's great. And those two things can sit together, side-by-side, just fine. There's no need to intellectualise it any more than that. Doing so may lead you to miss exactly what makes this music so great. And so dumb.
Bed Wettin' Bad Boys function within these polarities by self-proclaiming to be the best/worst band in Sydney on their debut 7".

HEALTH operate on a visceral plane. There is emotion apparent in their recordings but it is not made clear for you in words. It comes through in sound abstracted, voices affected and tempos flailing. They are able to connect to the audience on a basic level without having to sacrifice their complexities.

Eddy Current Suppression Ring, Rush to Relax
When asked to describe the difference between ECSR's Primary Colours and their self-titled debut, guitarist Mikey Young said it was more 82 than 76. With their third album, Rush To Relax, I don't think Mikey would be able to sum up the difference so easily.
Rush To Relax picks up where Primary Colours left off.
Archery
I decided that this year would be the year that I increased my skill base. Though there will be no courses in Excel or InDesign for me. No nunchuck skills or computer hacking skills either. Instead, I will be learning archery.
A chance encounter with the Archery Centre while on a job out at Sydney Olympic Park awakened in me a sudden urge to shoot things, not necessarily living things, but things all the same.
Blank Realm, Heatless Ark
Intuition plays a large part in the nature of music. Whether learned on their chosen instrument or approaching it from a new angle, the ability of a group of players to lock into and interweave with each other's sounds is a crucial dynamic. This instinctual nature shines through strongly on Blank Realm's debut vinyl release, Heatless Ark.
Snorkelling
Snorkeling is a great equaliser. Any element of calculated cool is immediately stripped away the moment you pull on the bulky goggles and cram the mouthpiece into your gob. It's kind of impossible to look cool, unless you happen to be Sean Connery in Thunderball.
The point of snorkelling though isn't looking cool.
