Description:
In a world where iPod wars constitute DJ sets and bottled beer flows more freely than tap, it's refreshing to find an establishment that pays homage to the simple pleasures of yesteryear. The Hive Bar in Erko holds a mid-weekly Vinyl Club, where punters can bring their own records and have a spin and a home-brewed drink.
Half Sleeve is for men who seek more than just mainstream brands; lads with an eye for detail and a slightly heavy pocket.
This isn't unreasonable however, when you consider that your plausible purchase is a handmade jacket crafted from authentic Japanese Kimono fabric with a leather hood.
Located in a basement building on Goulburn Street, quite near to nothing, Half Sleeve clearly doesn't cater to foot traffic.
The typical United States stereotype is something the Yanks are probably not too proud of. West-Coastal types are all plastic surgery and celebs whilst the East-Coasters, just a little farther south in Florida, are all SATC meets retiree town. But what of the Mid West? That largely vacant lot of land that joins coast to coast and spans more religions than Madonna.
Inner city office workers unite! No longer must you spend your obligatory Friday team lunch within the confines of a dimly-lit pub. Finally, there is sunshine and fresh air, and finally, there is fine food, cheese and wine tasting (from the bottle not the cask).
The Hawkesbury Harvest Market brings a fete-like atmosphere to the city's doorstep every Friday for four hours.
‘Venus In Furs' is a track you probably don't remember from 1967. Largely because you weren't born. THE VELVET UNDERGROUND is a 1995 film starring some nude Dutch nobodies; the name also belongs to a classic novel written by Leopald Von Sacher-Masoch, first published in 1870.
The latter was inspiration for the aforementioned, cementing the strong theme of sexual slavery seen in each artistic arm.
Most of us are fairly familiar with the ex-super power, Russia, and have no doubt drunk the national drink on more than a few occasions.
Some of us may have made politically incorrect banter about mail order Eastern Bloc brides, and jokes of a similar sarcastic stature regarding Russian Olympic weightlifters and gymnasts.
It seems the best book shops hide behind a tough, gritty and casually cool exterior. Think Out of Print Books on battered Canterbury Road or the piles and piles of paperbacks at Goulds'.
All Arts Book Shop is no exception. An artistic oasis in an intensely industrial estate.
The store caters to the fanatic art fiend as well as the casual collector, definitely favoring the former.
