If you've been craving organic baked goods and café nosh prepared by folks in peasant clothing that live communally and worship Jesus under his original Hebrew name of Yahshua -boy have I got the place for you.
Common Ground Bakery in Rozelle serves up tasty baked goods, salads, sandwiches, and pizza in the evening. It's run by the Twelve Tribes community. They believe that Jesus was the Son-of-God, but aren't too fond of organized, mainstream Christianity. So they live a simple,TV-free communal life, making their own clothes and predicting that the world will end soon. Most of the food they serve is vegetarian and organic, and much of it is vegan and/or gluten free. Not because they themselves have dietary restrictions; they simply believe eating fresh, healthy food made from simple ingredients is how He would want them to eat.
But their beliefs are incidental. They're sweet, lovely people making tasty, affordable food. Free information about their beliefs is at hand but never pushed. So stop in for lunch or swing by their stall at Bondi Junction's market Thursdays and Fridays. And don't be surprised if you find yourself exclaiming, "Jesus Christ, what great food!"
