Eatery - Sydney Restaurants and Bars - Eat Drink

From morning to midnight and back again, EAT/DRINK is TwoThousand's guide to cafes, bars and restaurants in Sydney. We know the best coffee because we drink 20 a day (each), we know the good restaurants because we can't cook, and we'll tell you where to find hidden bars and other places that still let you smoke so that we can ask you for a cigarette when you get there. EAT/DRINK is as voracious as our appetites and a much better filter than our livers, which stopped working a long time ago. Email your EAT/DRINK suggestions to: talk@twothousand.com.au

Fratelli Fresh and Cafe Sopra Walsh Bay

Fratelli Fresh and Cafe Sopra Walsh Bay

Unless you have been living under an especially large rock for the past few years, you've probably noticed the sudden abundance of swanky grocers dotted around the city. And hell, I'm all for it, because quite frankly, I don't want eat an apple that was picked six months ago and has been sitting in a deep freeze ever since.

Doughboy Newtown upstairs!

Doughboy Newtown upstairs!

Your favourite dough dealer just got better. They were already frisbeeing crispy bases to hungry mouths from their stores all over town, and now Newtown invites you upstairs to a dedicated pizza party room. Sure, you've done that at Pizza Hut when you were, like, eight. But, they've sweetened the deal further with a record player and the call to bring your own vinyl.

Beach Burrito Company

Beach Burrito Company is another TwoThousand staple feeding venue previously overlooked by our online reams of dining praise.

In our defence, it's only because we eat there so much it seems like home. (If home was a prime cut of North Bondi real estate, so beachfront that you can taste the salt in the air, with a never-empty kitchen full of toothsome Californian-Mexican street food, set to a consistently well-curated soundtrack.

The pre-show supper. Although you may not think that Stanley Street needs another Japanese place, Samurai is king. Amazing fish gyoza, a hearty seafood hot pot and an exceptional birthday surprise are all on the menu for reasonable prices. And the staff are adorable! Expect background tunes from artists such as Billie Holiday, Ivie Anderson and Louis Armstrong.

Mad Mex

Mad Mex

Mad Mex is kind of like a middle child. We love him just as much as every other Mexican restaurant we've featured, but somehow we forgot to include him. Which is ridiculous when you consider how great he is.

Conveniently sitting across from Gaslight, this three-step eatery renews our faith in fast food, because well, it's real food.

Miss Chu

Miss Chu

When you think 'William Street' and 'hole in the wall', nice images don't really come to mind. But when you start thinking of fresh Vietnamese rice paper rolls, vermicelli salad and steamed dumplings, pleasant thoughts start flooding in.

With the help of a friend, we discovered MissChu. After spending time in the catering biz she opened up this serviceable little hole-in-the-wall that deals out dumplings and other nice tasting bits.

Luneburger German Bakery

Luneburger German Bakery

Lonely hearts, this one goes out to you for V. Day. We'd heard a lot about this particular German Bakery before venturing there ourselves. One friend was adamant that "no city lunch is complete" without a pumpkin seed roll. Another was more honest: "The girls who work there are all babes from Germany, and the bread's good too.
