What's the appeal of eating in Darlinghurst without the promenading passers-by on Vic and Darlo? It's Forbes & Burton and the fact that you're hidden from passers-by with a sheath of cream chiffon.
Former Tetsuya head chef, David Pegrum brings his flair for fusion to Forbes & Burton's plates with an Asian/French stamp. A starter of Goats Cheese Bavarois with Roast Beetroot and Colza Oil, followed by Roast Lamb Rump, Aubergine Cream and Crushed Potatoes will have you totally oblivious to anything beyond your immediate vicinity. Perhaps that's why owner Adrian Hobbs has kept the décor simple and the patrons remain hushed.
While diners won't care for the action outside, the restaurant encourages a voyeuristic peep from outsiders. The kitchen can be viewed through a window slot above the 389 bus-stop and below an inset art space that exhibits a new work each month. And when you do get inside, check out the limerick wallpaper in the bathrooms.
