Luxe is a bakery and cafe brimming with enthusiasm. They're dying to tell you about their place, the bread they bake and the pickles and jams they make. And while they're good to listen to, you may just want to eat, as the food speaks for itself.
An heirloom tomato salad tells a tale of lost arts and forgotten seeds, the revival of a time when tomatoes tasted so good they were eaten straight from the hand (yes, like an apple). The smoked wagyu that fills your sandwich has had an involved journey, resulting in an intricate map of flavour. Crushed broad beans with mint and pecorino on sourdough is a chorus of in-season freshness. And the pan fried leg ham? That's a salty slap in the face to remind you there's more to breakfast than bacon.
Luxe's collective history encompasses stints with some of the biggest names in the bidness, and all of the bread is baked on site in the artisan way. Their skilled hands are addressing a paucity in Newtown (albeit in an already endowed strip on Missenden Road, right next to Campos), and the Single Origin coffee is perfect punctuation to end the conversation. Until next time.
