We're not going to engage in any sort of silly city-baiting about whose is better, as that's as pointless as comparing apples and orangutans. But we will say one thing we miss up here are Melbourne's abundance of cozy, homey, ramshackle lil' pubs. It's so expensive in Syders to open a pub that owners often insure they make their money back by appealing to the highest common denominator; i.e. fitting out places that appeal to yuppies with more money, less style, and no sense of adventure.

Whew! Now that we got THAT off our chest, welcome to Madame Fling Flong, a cozy, homey, ramshackle lil' pub up above Soni's in Newtown. Serving up killer cocktails amidst op-shop furniture in a single room, this is a bit of Brunswick Street transported to King Street, a Hell's Kitchen all our own. Tuesday night they show cult movies (book in - they fill-up quick), and the room can be rented out for special occasions. For all you Victorian transplants pining away for Bleak City, come in, have a drink and kick up your heels. There's no place like home.
