TwoThousand likes nothing more than a little unfriendly competition. Why, just last week we slashed the tires of the editor of Citysearch and broke the legs of our ex-boyfriends new squeeze. So you can imagine our delight when we found out about the new contender on the highly competitive inner-city Austrian Restaurant circuit, Maggie's.
Maggie was one of the original founders of Austrian staple Una's, a Victoria Street mecca for health unconscious over eaters. After selling Una's, a non-competition clause meant that only years later is Maggie finally able to challenge her old business' schnitzel supremacy.
Unfortunately, Maggie seems to have had few new ideas in her time out of the ring. The name, décor, tacky alpine paintings (pictured), and even staff are alarmingly similar to Una's (if not the same). But particularly disappointing is the menu which, while featuring all the same dishes, falls short once the food comes out. The Jager and the Cordon Bleu Schnitzels made TwoThousand wish that Maggie's would throw in the towel, and the sloppy, bland potato rosti had us convinced that crappy food was a further term of the Una's sale agreement. Standing on the shoulders of a giant, Maggie's could have toppled Una's, but unfortunately this second rate knock-off is far from a knock out. Avoid until further notice.
