The ancient Chinese didn't just spend their time building great walls and playing with fireworks. Truth be told, they spent most of their time sipping green tea and savouring delectable Chinese cuisine. Because of this the average Chinese palate became so sophisticated that people soon refused to settle for one-wok-slop, and began demanding elaborate banquets containing myriad of dishes in perfect bite-sized morsels.
Much has been made of Time To Vino's name, its cutesy menu divisions (with sections like ‘Waiting For Friends'), and its position at the forefront of the rash of new small bars expected in Sydney.
Most of this misses the point, concentrating on TTV's form over its substance.
On the one hand, it's an appealingly quirky little bar, but you're not here for the décor.
For a city so stuck on staying swimwear skinny, Sydney sure has a sweet tooth. Gelaterias abound, and while I'm not here to get into a tizzy over which is the best (Gelatomassi, Pompei or Serendipity?), I must observe a tasty point of difference.
Asian-infused Passion Flower offers flavours you won't find anywhere else; red bean, taro, black sesame, jackfruit, even durian (rose petal and lychee, coconut, and sticky rice are also highly recommended).
There's no question that the Inner West has its share of excellent pubs. Come summer, so many million beers will be poured down throats at these various bars and balconies. What is harder to find west of the city is a place for a good, crisp rosé.
More often than not, pubs provide only a list of serviceable but boring standards.
Those new licensing laws are finally starting to kick in and small bars are popping up all over the place. The latest addition is the wine bar/restaurant/café Yulli's. Like a caped crusader of hospitality, Yulli serves coffee by day (and breakfast on the weekends) before dimming the lights and switching to wine bar by night.
There is a lot on offer for those with a sweet tooth already down Chinatown way. Bubble tea, hot custard balls, red bean everything, pancakes and ice cream. Hindsight's a wonderful thing - and there'll be a few people out there fuming that they didn't think of this first. LNC have put all the sweet stuff under the same roof, splashed the walls with bright stripes and decked out the staff in uniforms that make them resemble the store's cartoon mascot.
‘The Rabbit' as it is more fondly know by regular bunny goers and bar hoppers is one of the more sleek, dark, sexy, little haunts on the boutique bar circuit in Sydney. For those of you who aren't aware, its one sweet little venue tucked away on the upper west side of Oxford Street just short of Taylor Square.
