John Thorpe, of "we don't want to sit in a hole and drink chardonnay and read a book" fame, is going to hate this place. Pocket is a hole-in-the-wall, almost literally. It has chardonnay, amongst other affordable, well-chosen wines. And they're available in that handy half-bottle option so successfully pioneered by Time to Vino.

Its bar is stocked with your usual favourite spirits, but also with NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC in case you forget your book. Turns out that it's a perfect place to "sit down, talk about history and chew the fat" - again, sorry John! A cafe serving Little Marionette coffee by day, the food comes into its own after 6pm, when the house speciality of savoury crepes becomes available. Tick up another win to the bars we were told we didn't want.
