Located at the seedy end of Pitt St right across the road from the entry to the World Square car park, Sea Bay is the perfect eatery to line your pre-starved washboard stomach before heading off to a night of drunken stupor at the nearby Mandarin Club followed by unrestrained exhibitionism at the expense of innocent passers-by.
Sea Bay has been serving arguably the best Fried Dumplings ($8/doz) in Sydney for almost twenty years. Its menu features mostly Northern Chinese staple dishes including the trademark Spring Pancakes ($8) that consist of vermicelli, Chinese fungus, pork and spring onion wrapped in a soft, thin flour pastry. Other must-have dishes are any that contain noodles, be they stir-fried or served in soup ($8 - $9.80). Hand churned with plenty of slamming, twisting and stretching, these noodles are more al dente than even the most hastily prepared Dolmio.
Service at Sea Bay is fast, efficient and no-frills. Most of the staff remain extremely helpful despite being worked to the bone by the impolite and sullen-faced female owner. And their charming smiles and photos with both John Howard and Kim Beasley that adorn the walls more than make up for her manner-misdemeanours.
