Word has it that Christopher's is Australia's oldest Greek cake shop. If taste is a method of verifying truth then it must be true. Since 1955 they've been plying Ergolavous, Amigthalota, Koulourakia and all sorts of traditional Greek cakes, pastries and biscuits to unsuspecting customers who would have no chance of knowing that taking that single bite would result in so many maroon boxes being piled up in their homes and offices.
Ignore the cold hearted hag serving behind the counter; the delicacies in this lovely cake shop are worth the trauma. The trauma of satisfying your sweet tooth while packing on the pounds. The choices are abundant: six different flavours of cheesecake, Greek pastries and shortbreads, meringues, petit foures so candy coloured they'd put Marie Antoinette's baker to shame.
Picture this scene: Fresh fruit... picked daily we're sure. It's some of the healthiest produce you'll ever see. It sits comfortably on rustic wood boxes opposite a cheese fridge that's bursting at the seams with the most amazing cheese-wheels known to man. Shelves are stacked with homemade preserves, fresh pasta abounds and dewy faced staff are scurrying about offering advice and spraying veggies to keep them fresh.
Don't be fooled by the name...there's more to Jaipur Sweets than the tooth-achingly saccharine offerings in hazchem colours that have made India famous. They also do savory at this canteen-style restaurant, and all the favorites are here.
The samosas are hearty and firm, the dosa light and crisp and there is a vast variety of thali from just $12.
