Contrary to popular belief, the best place to find hot flesh on Oxford Street is not the Stonewall, it's the Balkan Continental Restaurant. After 40 years in the business, The Balkan outstrips most Oxford Street institutions, even with a tacky facelift.
The Balkan is all about game on flame so if you have a vego in your ranks, send them home. The traditional raznjici (assortment of spicy meats) and cevapcici (spicy minced meat rolled into skinless sausages) are worth getting your tongue around. But if you're after a real Bacchanalian slap-up, the mixed meat and seafood platter offers almost every consumable meat known to carnivores (including a kransky). And some that fail recognition.
The staff are friendly (and patient) and the wine comes served in heavy goblets that add festive authenticity. So if you fancy a flesh feast, do it Balkan.
