It can't just be our imagination. It's the plain truth, good pubs are getting harder to find as more and more venerable old watering holes are being "refurbished" (aka crapified). Have faith! Here's an old stalwart for you.
The Bellevue is in the heart of Paddington's best pub neighbourhood with nearby boozers such as the Four in Hand and the Lord Dudley making this prime drinking turf.
The true measure of a pub's character is the characters found at the bar, and the Bellevue has its own special clientele. A favourite with rough-talking politicians, journos, rugby fans and union men. TwoThousand once even had the honour of spouting some semi-drunken compliment to our greatest PM, The Gough. (Sorry Gough, we were pretty shit-faced- but meant well).
Happy Hour prices that do make you happy, some tacky sporting memorabilia, comfy couches and a fancy restaurant out the back (if you want to impress your mum). This is what a real pub should be like.
