Bad things come in pairs, and now there are two similarly named annoying little Italians that we can't stand. The first: Vinnie (pictured). The second: Vini.
Vini is fairly new Italian enoteca in Surry Hills. Little because it seats only 25 (10 would fit better), Vini serves adequate but overpriced wine and food (entrees around $10, mains a bit more than $20). And what makes it more irritating than Joe Pesci is everything other than the very salty but apparently "unfussy Italian" cuisine.
Firstly, finding it is a pain: it's said to be on Devonshire Street, Surry Hills, but the frontage is actually on Holt Street. Secondly, the opening hours are very limited, and they don't take bookings but are happy to have customers wait half an hour or more for a table in the bar across the street (presumably the far more cheerful Strawberry Hills Hotel). Thirdly, while the staff are lovely, the management/owners are utterly awful, committing the food crime (amongst other offences) of emptying half eaten bowls of greasy, fingered olives into "new" ones for different customers . And finally, the clientele are everything TwoThousand hates about Sydney: allegedly "fashionable" yuppies in open buttoned ugly shirts and leather skinned society blowsies reminiscing about their Tuscan holidays. It is unfortunate because the sweet desserts and staff have true potential. Too bad nearly everything else sucks.
