It's a shame that slogan T-shirts are lamer than a guy who just got stabbed in the kneecap with a wasp knife, because the other day I was inside my closet looking for the doorway to my secret den (from whence I once sent emails to prospective publishers regarding my manuscript "Hello Cleveland: A Band That Never Made It Outside Ohio") when a box toppled from the shelf, bringing with it a flood of memories.
Buying a T-shirt is kind of like choosing a pizza base. Stay with me now. Imagine yourself walking up to the local pizza store. You're hungry, damn hungry and you want something basic, but something that can (if necessary) also handle the toppings you crave such as peppers, aubergine and the perfect jeans, ahem, sorry sauce.
"They're turning kids into slaves, just to make cheaper sneakers. What's the real cost cause the sneakers don't seem that much cheaper? Why are we paying so much money for sneakers when they're made by little slave kids?" ‘Think About It' - Flight of The Concords (1.26).
NO MORE must we a) support child slavery b) pay so much money for sneakers.
Sydney's spring weather has been fairly disappointing recently. We've been pining for winter and desperately wanting to start stocking our wardrobes with all-things dark, luxurious and rich.
So we're already pretty excited about new Australian label Es Trella's inaugural winter range.
Design duo Sarah King and Tristan Blair have named their baby after a star, which is rather apt, because we can so totally see some seriously super-cool beings in this stuff.
Every year when the temperature rises enough to make us wish every day was a weekend, the inevitable dilemma of what to wear beachside hits. Maybe it's just us, but we always feel a little hypocritical going to a surf shop for a swimsuit when we neither surf, dive, nor ski.
In fact, we haven't dressed ourselves in "surfie" clothes since Stussy pants were huge back in 1992, which kinda makes matching our beachside style with our street style all the more difficult.
Trimapee designers Peter Strateas and Mario-Luca Carlucci are one of the few young and up-comers who have successfully mixed the luxe (fabrics) with the casual (style). By doing so, they’ve also caught the eye of many a razor-hipped muso - The Spazzies and Silverchair put the brand to test onstage.
Ant!podium have been making us giggle more often than a schoolyard crush for the past few seasons, with snappy prints and slogans such as ‘don't screw the crew' and ‘tux-o-dermy'. ‘Tee-hee'!
The current collection ‘No Romance Without Finance' is punctuated with ‘80s wham, hip hop ‘werd' and the odd sheer shirt (something every financially soundsugar daddy would approve of).
