Here at TwoThousand, when we hear rumors of something good we suss it and try and spread the word. So when we heard that there was someone cooking up tees that were channeling Helmut Lang (with a price range channeling General Pants) our hands were at the ready over the keyboard...
The first step was the Google search. Known to uproot bad reviews from 2001 and half pissed pictures of the artist/ band/ designer on titomedia, it was here that we hit a wall with Nathan Smith. None of the above was uncovered; instead we found he could either be a religious web designer or a medical malpractice attorney in Canada. There was also a link on how to make your own Jewish T-shirts.... intriguing.
Step two, hound our more fashionable industry friends down at the local. It was here that we hit jackpot, and our new favorite brand come summer.
Nathan Smith is the ubiquitous owner of Cumquat in Sydney's north, which hints at this solid design taste by stocked labels Lover, Camilla and Marc, Karen Walker, and JoshGoot. Nathan's tees are made from a mix of jersey and heavy cottons (read: won't distort after one wash), and are available in muted colours (read:go with everything). Stocked over in NYC, Smith is ready to expand his brand with denim and cashmere. Keep your eyes on this space.
