People often say to me: "Hey Tyson, how are you - whoa! You smell good! What is it?" To which I return with a coy but knowing grin, reluctant to reveal the reason for my redolence. As a rule of good deportment, the modern man must leave an air of mystery, you know! Well just for you, o special Two Thousand reader, I shall share my scented secret: Penhaligon's.
Penhaligon's is one of the world's oldest perfumeries still in existence and its founder, William Henry Penhaligon served as the official perfumer to the Royal Court during Queen Victoria's reign. His fragrances have adorned the distinguished classes of Great Britain for over 135 years with clients including Oscar Wilde and Sir Winston Churchill.
Only the finest of ingredients are used to build the bouquets and spices are sourced globally. These include orris root, bourbon black pepper, Yuzu fruit, basil, saffron and myrrh.
The scents capture the charm of a bygone era and conjure up vivid scenes of fillies frolicking coquettishly in well-manicured English gardens during a summer sunset. Or, perhaps, the fleeting passion of a one-night stand during a business trip to the Orient.
The fragrances are beautifully bottled, as are their other products which include bath oils, shower gels, shaving and grooming kits, talc and candles. Penhaligon's isn't available in Australia so you'll have to go to their website.
It's what noses are made for! That and detecting house-fires.
