When Secret Machines' Benjamin Curtis decides to leave his highly successful group and make new, interesting, and wholly better music, it becomes newsworthy. Teaming up with the Deheza twins formerly of On! Air! Library!, this ramshackle team of band deserters named after a secret Andean pickpocket academy have created a stunning debut.
Giving plenty of head nods to My Bloody Valentine, School of Seven Bells creates atmospheric music that is electronic, densely populated, and entrancing.
The harmonies of the Deheza sisters are a perfect counterpoint for Curtis' synthesizer sweeps, rhythmic beats, and psychedelic soundscapes.
Not only is this record trance inducing hippy fodder, the band also has heaps of street cred: being featured on Prefuse 73's last single, covering Wire on green 7" vinyl, and hailing from the epicentre of hip (that Brooklyn place).
