Matt & Kim like to keep it short and snappy - GRAND is the Brooklyn duo's second long-player. While the album does dip into some subtly softer, self-reflecting tracks - their special blend of pop-punk is still as present as ever. ‘Lessons Learned' for example opens with this beautifully harmonious ‘da-da-da-da' layered over a perfectly solid drumbeat, then builds into Matt's rhythmic pop-rap lyrics.
Right, short and snappy - this album is so succinct - it's length and energy gives such an adrenaline rush. You know that feeling you get from hopping on your pushy and pedalling down to the corner store for milk and the morning paper - it's just like that - short and simple, but you still get the wind in your hair and air in your lungs.
Each track has something very different about it. It's simply impossible to listen to this album and not smile and involuntarily tap your feet - actually you probably need to jump around at least a little bit. Your heart just wants to beat at the same pace as Kim drums...
