Let's face it - despite the consciousness-raising, spiritual, communal sense of enlightenment and massive endorphin rush they inspire, drum circles suck.
Toronto's HOLY FUCK don't wear ponchos or play hacky-sack, but they do kick out some tribal motherfucking jams. And instead using bongos or pan flutes, they employ old Casio keyboards and lo-fi drum machines mixed with live bass, guitar, and noise. The result? Think Trans Am, Tussle, or The Boredoms covering krautrock tunes, ebbing and flowing over incessant bass & drum grooves.
Each song is written by improvising live, then recorded later. It's great, you get the contact high of a drum circle without the mosquitoes, patchouli, or dirty naked hippie snatch. Stellar.
