The term “release date” means different things to different musicians: compare, for example, Lil’ Kim to Gary Glitter…er..... Well anyway, while we would never listen to and review illegally leaked versions of not yet released tracks, if we did it might sound something like this:
Allegedly from the loooooong awaited album CHINESE DEMOCRACY, the tracks 'T.W.A.T. (There Was a Time)', 'The Blues', 'Better', and 'I.R.S.' were recently leaked to the dismay of Mr Stephanie Seymour himself, Axl Rose. In typical fading egomaniac style, Axl and his new obsequious cronies have recorded a bunch of tracks that are, at best, lacklustre and, at worst, obtuse and unoriginal. Trouble in Paradise City, if you ask us.
Meanwhile, The Flaming Lips’ AT WAR WITH THE MYSTICS refuses to 'Check on' Beyonce’s 'It', attacking mainstream pop and politics for their over-familiar and tiresome messages. Always wise beyond their years, the Lips are now 21 and it shows. Trying new things (not that they ever haven’t), being difficult, and criticising the musical status quo, they sound more adult than they ever have.
Finally, Morrissey’s RINGLEADER OF THE TORMENTORS is the still handsome Smith’s recently leaked latest. When it comes out, this album will please die hard fans such as Hilary Duff with it’s predictable brilliance. Upbeat toe tappers like 'Life is a Pigsty', 'Dear God, Please Help Me', and 'You Have Killed Me', along with pretty much every other track are further proof of producer Tony Visconti’s (Bowie’s LOW, amongst others) knack for distilling strange personalities into musical perfection.
