Strong and at times unique vocals backed with solid musicianship and relatively catchy tunes make PARC AVENUE a worthy contender for late end-of-year top album lists or to help kick off this year's list alongside Animal Collective and Antony & The Johnsons (depending on how you interpret this album's release date). Mixing elements of folk, rock and acoustic soul, Plants And Animals produce easy-going, hummable pop which flowers slowly throughout each song and across the record as a whole.

Opening track 'Bye Bye Bye' is a subtly epic number with flora-shes of choral backing which fans of any chamber-gospel-pop will faun-a over (yes, there were a couple of attempts of play-on-word humour there), while the remainder of the album shows various signs of life at different points. 'Mercy' has a certain funk emanating from its boppy hide, 'Keep It Real' endeavours to capture the spirit and grandeur of the album opener, 'Guru' instrumentalises the proceedings toward the end, much like an organic Battles, and tracks like 'New Kind Of Love' and 'Early In The Morning' have a very relaxed scuttle which help create a record full of depth and variety.
