Both as individual songs and as an album, Ten Lives is a narrative record. Inspired by Jorge Luis Borges, Michael Gondry and Chris Ware’s ‘Jimmy Corrigan: The Smartest Kid on Earth’ the band’s leader Marcus Teague gets full points for cultural references and reading depth. As well as wondering in and out of stories, it also wonders in and out of 90’s rock, a sound that is surprisingly refreshing due to its focus on vocals and experimental pop arrangements.

Like a car that changes lanes without indicating, Deloris is a band that has lurked in many people’s periphery for years. The new album Ten Lives could very well be that lane change, provoking car horns, swerves but eventually getting them where they want to be.
