South Rakkas Crew, have such a direct Jamaican style it's hard to believe they're from Canada. They were among the first to combine dancehall and electro (a sound that now has asses shaking in most Sydney clubs) and since forming in 2002 have worked with and remixed a stellar, hugely diverse range of artists from Bob Marley and Duran Duran to Good Charlotte, Beck and Lily Allen.
Their latest LP THE MIX UP is out through Diplo's Mad Decent label, and is available on vinyl and CD release from Jimmy Sing's Imports and Record Stand - which should always be your first point of call for the latest and best in baile funk, Baltimore club, dancehall, crunk, grime and afro beat. Go buy a copy, and while you're there admire the exclusive and super limited illustrated T-shirts and prints by local artist Hana Shimada. They're phenomenal, and Jimmy's is the only place they're stocked in Australia.
