We live in a global village, which means it’s now possible for gigantoid multi-national corporations to exploit swarthy, fly-attracting people in even more obscure places. And your creepy uncle can view pictures of your hot girlfriends in their underwear on MySpace. In his underwear. Umm… gross.
The upside to all this is that nowadays some dudes from Mexico City raised on American indie rock can strike up an e-friendship with some dude in Canada who recorded the last Broken Social Scene album. One trans-continental flight and some Toronto recording sessions later and they have a fantastic album to show for it - THE STARS AND SUNS SESSIONS.
Their second full-length, STARS AND SUNS… displays a similar rich, dense, warm, multi-instrument cacophony to B.S.S. (whose many members performed herein) with laconic vocals and noodle-y atmospheric tangents. At heart, this is punchy, upbeat slacker rock like you’d picture Dinosaur Jr. and Pavement jamming through with Wilco in between rounds of Monopoly. Ordering a copy online can be difficult if you don’t speak Spanish. So until someone releases this locally (please), you can at least have a listen on MySpace. In your underwear. Thank God for globalisation.
