These New Puritans

13th Feb 08

I've got good news and bad news.

The bad news: now that fashionabe trendy kids in trenchcoats have appropriated the post-punk misery of depressed, social misfits like Joy Division, the next step is appropriating the impassioned political rhetoric of Wire and The Fall...without the intelligence. 'Cuz while These New Puritans sound really mad about something on their debut BEAT PYRAMID but their cryptic lyrics say nothin'.

The good news: the music sounds great. Backwards loops, tribal drums, squelching organs, video game sound effects and low, long synths - like Timbaland producing The Fall, it's a sound that's startlingly new, fresh, and now. The kids don't give a shit about politics, unless they're great to party to. Maybe that's the whole joke?
