Actors-as-musicians generally range from the forgettable mediocre (Keanu Reeves' Dogstar) to the outright atrocious (Paris Hilton's 'Stars are blind') and the utterly laughable (William Shatner...).

Anyone who's heard South American TV star Juana Molina's music can attest; this ain't some vanity project. Her fifth album UN DIA is as striking a take on folk, pop, and electronica as contemporary trail blazers El Guincho, Tunng, Beth Orton, or Hood. In her otherworldly songs, robot cats cry out melodies, synths moan, groan, and belch bent notes, and mechanical cicadas hum along all the while.

You can see why Molina's been dubbed "the Argentinian Bjork". But her music is less abrasive, and more inviting. UN DIA is a Sunday morning album that rewards closer investigation. Her sense of adventure and child like playfulness is endearing (it never approaches annoying affectation), and her approach is pure fun.
