It would be a shame for Tom Vek to be consumed and spat out like a liquorice jellybean by the hype-machine that is inevitably about to engulf him. Vek has a sound that could be said to grab at the coat tails of the 'new-Eurowave' revival alongside the likes of Bloc Party and Franz Ferdinand or perhaps even reveal a certain compliance to musical trends. However, audiophile fairy-floss aside, Vek is a one man band with genuine class, a mind for impeccably programmed electronics, an ear for a funky bass-lines, an LCD Soundsystem -esq heartbeat and a head full of synth-pop melodies and slacker lyrics that echo either a young Stephen Malkmus or an older Beck.
WE ARE SOUND is an incredible home-studio debut for this young Londoner.

TwoThousand is a subcultural guide to Sydney, published daily and fired by email weekly. It is compiled by an amorphous gaggle of Sydney writers, stylists, designers and photographers who all like huddling under that big umbrella we like to call creativity. Without editorial independence TwoThousand has nothing. All editorial you read is featured because it's worth it - not because it's paid for.
