Underbelly is definitely a new experience for the Sydney art scene. Exhibitions are usually set up in secret, during daylight hours, and then a night is picked when the public can rock up. Beer is consumed, people socialise and bitch about who looks more fashionable, and nothing is bought. With Underbelly though, the experience is much more interactive for the artist and the audience.

Checking out art doesn't have to be one of those high-brow, look-but-don't-touch experiences reserved for gentlemen with monocles and ladies with plums in their mouths. Experimenta Playground is the antithesis to this. It provides an accessible environment where you are encouraged to immerse yourself in an exhibition of interactive media artworks, video installations, short films and extreme art on screen from over 30 Australian and international artists.

Any play which opens a national parliament must be worth its weight in reputation, and that is what BLACK WATCH did recently when it was chosen to open Scottish parliament.
