‘Niche' magazines generally refer to topic-specific titles about cars, interiors, fashion, pets, helicopters, or pets flying helicopters in amazing fashion. This kind of niche is for people that know what they want and don't want to have to look too hard to find it.
Then, thankfully, there is the other kind of niche publication, like Les Cahiers Purple, which is much harder to find and is about an approach to content and not just the content itself.

PARIS, LA is a magazine started by long time Purple contributor Dorothee Perret with a vision to cross oceans by daydreaming about the other side. It's about making the world smaller than it already is, taking pieces of culture from all over and putting them into one publication. It's like a blind person feeling your face to see what you look like - they get to know you even though they can't see you.
The cover of PCA issue 2 is eye-catching to say the least. Some may be turned off by it and some may be turned on, though both reactions would be way off the mark. The image, part of the series 14 Months by Glasgow based artist Paul Knight, encapsulates the magazine's statement of intent perfectly.
