Back in 2004, Tim Minchin was a ranga from Perth who wrote weird satirical songs that record companies didn't know how to market. Then he had a makeover (I love makeovers.) Rock'n'roll eyeliner! Chemically straightened hair teased up, like Russell Brand! Unbuttoned shirts! And get this: it totally worked.
Bobby Black Bird and The Blue Jays are a three piece form Perth. While they're now scattered about Australia, I knew of the band for a while and was fortunate enough to hear them play at the Forum in Melbourne supporting the Black Keys with Sharon Jones and The Dap Kings. The EP sold out through out Japan, USA, Europe and Australia so you would be hard-pressed to find one, but a full-length album is soon to come.

On their terribly serious second album, THE HORSE, THE RAT AND THE SWAN, there's still that Nick-Cave-rolling-around-on-the-floor-covered-in-blood dark melodrama thing.
How often do we hoist our skirts above the knee and kick around the Charlston? Not enough. Bim Kenesis make us dream of a 1930s speakeasy with their latest collection, The Sarsaparilla Gang. Hot Dawg!
Theseglad-rags are created by a hip-to-the-jive lady from Perth who knowshow to put on the ritz.
