Echoing vocals. Swirling guitars. Drums that are not sympathetic to the ears. Meet The Black Ryder. They are the kind of band you'd want to see by candle light, with a full glass of red and someone to stand against. Supporting will be Stammer. A group formed with husky vocals and psychedelic vibes in mind, including members of Bridezilla and The Laurels.

From teenage years spent busking his way through the streets of Europe, to fronting German kraut-rock group, Can, Damo Suzuki embodies the wandering spirit of the psychedelic more authentically than most. An icon in his own right, the anticipation of his collaboration with the raw, snarling guitars of The Holy Soul is enough to make you want to be there so bad it almost hurts.

Through the palace doors wafts a wild folly of lucid live performances and psychedelic bedlam. Aptly titled, this bohemian gathering of home-grown flower children promises a melange of blues melodies, cosmic sounds and punk psych by Sister Jane, The Astral Kaleidoscope and Dead Farmers. Decorative mushroom scenery will be provided but BYO tipple to accompany this mind-bending excursion into the night.

Beaches

Article published 24th Nov 08
Release: Album
To Cure: A predictable playlist

A paean to freedom and knowing its truth, Beaches' debut is a powerful, sex-driven record smacking of Stooges greatness. Edgeless and heavy, freely oscillating through song forms, and everything done with never-ending feel; Beaches are classic musicians' musicians - light on nothing stupid and heavy on the rest.

Have you heard the Tame Impala EP? It sounds like a bunch of long haired dudes were sitting around in their garage, found a whole bunch of dusty gear in the corner, shrugged and decided to jam it out. This is probably exactly what happened with the Perth trio. The result is a fuzzy psychedelic rock space-out that you should turn the lights real low to.

Occasionally a band comes along that actually lives up to their name. Spider Vomit are one of those bands. Not because they sound like an ill spider, the name fits in the same vein as the Bad Brains or The Bangles. Heavy, bluesy, psychedelic riffs, male and female vocals are thrown together and spewed forth in an audience participation laden show.
