Sometimes I wish I didn't have to tell you about music via a flashing computer screen.
I wish I could just play you something at a party. Or make you a mix CD. Some things are better if you find them out by accident, or from a friend. The Besnard Lakes have too much personality for the impersonality of a computer screen.
What:
Hole In The Sky Presents Pond
Where:
GOODGOD Small Club, 55 Liverpool St, City
When:
Fri Jan 22, 10pm
How much:
$15
Description:
I came for their psychedelic chanting, and stayed for the syzzurp. Pond have been described as "a collective of hairy, sexy men and women that are all riding the bigger groove", and that they are. They started with three core members and a bag of shrooms, but with a seemingly endless list of participants (see: band members), they're now more like a cult.

Stimulus: psychedelic rock
Sydney five-piece Sherlock's Daughter feed the wildlife of the unconscious. It's the astral sound that somnambulists dance to. It's the marriage of lyrical mysticism and tidal bouts of percussion.
Their transcendental currents cross the ancestral wisdom of pagan terrain while remaining dutifully informed by their fictional parents Sherlock Holmes and Irene Adler.

One of two double passes. To enter, email win@twothousand.com.au with the subject 'Sway Me Down Gently'
Description:
With a dual vocalist setup and more guitar pedals than David Gilmour, it's no wonder this psych-noise band makes walls melt. They're launching their first 7" at The Hopetoun with support from Warhorse, Deadfarmers and Whores. It's a good bliss to rattle ratio which makes the $10 cover charge very easy to part with.

"A tense, mind bending, savage freakout. A real rough trip."
Well my Friday nights are officially planned for the next seven weeks. The event is automatically appealing, just from its name.
Once you have a look at what the Chauvel has lined up, I'm sure you will be joining us for each of the double features, keeping your eyes glued to the screen into the early hours of Saturday morning.
