It was real nice to read a zine which confirmed that VICE didn't invent the f*ck-you-political-correctness writing style. I guess neither did these guys, but when Jim and Debbie Goad spent a couple years of their spare time in the early 90s observing and hating on human kind and writing about it so succinctly, a few people were probably going to get inspired by their ideas and start writing too.
A buddy turned me onto this weird Electric Eels meets the Modern Lovers band. I bought the second 7" immediately. I gave it to Angie as had forgotten to buy her a birthday present, but managed to get hold of another copy a little later. I then spent about a year tracking down the first 7" after initially trying to join the band when their drummer quit (I emailed but they'd already found someone who lived in the same country).

If any band of now needs to be heard live or on a 7", it's the Straight Arrows. Their live set is Jagger struts, disjointed guitar and daisy chains, best experienced in a garage or somewhere with similar acoustics. To compare the Hopetoun to a car hole is a little rough, but if there's one pub that can do the Arrows justice, this is it.
