ONE OF TWO DOUBLE PASSES. JUST EMAIL WIN@TWOTHOUSAND.COM.AU WITH THE SUBJECT 'PORTISHEAD LOVE CHILD'
Dream pop pros Zero 7 meet the universal sponsors of hazy afternoons Portishead - and have a lovechild. Its name is All India Radio. It has a dreamy voice, the kind that lulls time-challenged adults into guilt-free naps. FALL is the band's fifth effort, but their debut album (if you want to be fussy and count Leona Prue's first time at the helm).

Of all the furtive acts I regularly indulge in, scanning bookshelves in people's homes when they're out of the room has got to be one of the most rewarding. Even a cursory glance over the spines of someone's literature collection can give us very important details about what sort of company we're amongst and how long we should stay amongst it.

STRAIGHT ARROWS 7" LAUNCH
WHERE
THE HOPETOUN, 416 BOURKE ST, SURRY HILLS
WHEN
SAT SEPT 20, 8PM
HOW MUCH
$10
If any band of now needs to be heard live or on a 7", it's the Straight Arrows. Their live set is Jagger struts, disjointed guitar and daisy chains, best experienced in a garage or somewhere with similar acoustics. To compare the Hopetoun to a car hole is a little rough, but if there's one pub that can do the Arrows justice, this is it.

It's cultured, has a definite entourage (40,000+ were in attendance last year), humanitarian (50% of profits are heading to a charity), and not in the least bit snobbish. We'd even say it would enjoy a cheeky pre-noon beer in the park with you. Yep, it's Earthdance, back again, and after a successful fundraiser back in August, all you need is a gold coin donation to enjoy everything that this year's festival has to offer.

If you want an insight into what Bachelor Of Arts are all about, you can look into their manifesto of sorts: 'Bachelor of Arts is an exercise in critical thinking for an apathetic and abstinent generation'. If that's too much of an exercise in abstraction for you, then you should also know that they've played with My Disco, Japanther, and These New Puritans.
