You know what? There's way too much great stuff in Art Month to list here. Check out the schedule. Over 70 galleries are participating, and there are over 140 events - most of them free. If you can't find something that grabs your interest, you truly are a jaded douchebag.
Might we suggest:
1) Artist displays at Fairfax and Roberts (Michael Zavros), The Commons (Lyn and Tony, 24-28 March) and both Incu stores (Tara Marynowsk, CBD; Kate Rohde, Paddington).
There is no grand mystery to rock music. It's dumb. And it's great. And those two things can sit together, side-by-side, just fine. There's no need to intellectualise it any more than that. Doing so may lead you to miss exactly what makes this music so great. And so dumb.
Bed Wettin' Bad Boys function within these polarities by self-proclaiming to be the best/worst band in Sydney on their debut 7".
A few years back my lovely grandmother gave me some spending money as a birthday gift. Being the narcissistic young man that I was, I rushed out and treated myself to an exorbitantly priced moss green blazer, complete with asymmetrical seams and tattered hems. I though I was the bomb shizzle. My grandmother, however, did not share the same enthusiasm.
Not knowing stuff is underrated. Not knowing stuff means I'm always discovering stuff. The list of things I don't know about is long so I'm always pleasantly fascinated when I come across things like cars, chemicals, the financial world and times-tables. This city is bubbling with things I don't know about, and lovely people that want to share them.
There are only so many discordant renditions of 'Achy Breaky Heart' that even the most persevering of souls can endure. So after sharing a home for three years with the infamous, and slightly bedraggled, Ding Dong Dang karaoke parlour, innovative art space Gaffa has moved to the big end of town.
The new premises on Clarence Street in the CBD will house four galleries, Australia's largest jewellery studio, an industrial design project space and a café, spread over three levels in a 19th Century police station.
The zines normally come to me. They sneak on to coffee tables nearby, or drape themselves conspiciously over friends' book shelves. They jostle for my attention in cafes, paper-cutting innocent bystanders queueing for their lattes. There's just something in the way my stars are aligned, because although I never set out to hunt down one of these papery gems they always find a way into my book bag.
