It's bad form to pass judgements about a band without seeing them perform live. This is point is particularly salient when ROLLONG STONE magazine has named the said band "the greatest live band in the world". That's a pretty big call. But if Rocket Science's new wave/punk/rock recordings are anything to go by, they might just fit the bill.

There was a phenomenon a couple of years back involving Jack Johnson doppelgangers emerging from bedrooms at their mums' houses to inflict us with their over-sensitive musings. Jack was good. But the onslaught of romantic-sentiment cloaked in formulaic folk really killed the genre for us. Thankfully Melbourne's Custom Kings have broken that mould, with an eclecticism of upbeat, intelligent folk fused with jazz, reggae and roots.

Why should you pay $30 for Kelley Stoltz? There are a few reasons. One, his music is a cool mix of guitar rock, country croon and shambolic vocals. Two, his touring band includes Mikey Young from Eddie Current Supression Ring. Three, he's playing with locals Richard In Your Mind, who mix a wicked dose of psych rock encompassing a sitar, planflute and air organ.
