I was in Melbourne recently with work and stayed in a great hotel. Admittedly the interiors bordered on the distasteful end of that modern minimalist design rubbish, but my girlfriend at the time and I enjoyed it all the same. They had an amazing lap pool with a glass bottom that jutted out over the edge of the rooftop, the sinks and bath were all stainless steel.
There are so many fashion culture-led periodicals around that it truly does take something quite considered to cut through the sea of all of them. DOINGBIRD, published by local Photographer (my band mate and good friend) Max Doyle and Art Director Malcolm Watt, really accomplishes this. Ignoring any of my own involvement, it defiantly pulls together the best creative talent from around the globe.
I am an embarrassingly huge fan of Jim O'Rourke's solo work, I think HALFWAY TO A THREEWAY and EUREKA are probably some of the most played records in my collection. Most will know him from his time spent in The Red Krayola, Sonic Youth and Loose Fur, but he has remained incredibly prolific outside those bands; quite literarily involved in hundreds of recordings.
Music eZines, like MESS+NOISE or PITCHFORK, are great vehicles for promotion (and perhaps hype) if you are an independent artist or label. They have grown to have a real impact on the industry and musicians. Rarely though, do you find an online music magazine that is willing to delve deep while remaining somewhat esoteric in its content.

If you've ever flicked through a copy of VOGUE PARIS, DAZED & CONFUSED, ANOTHER MAN or DOINGBIRD chances are you've come across Frenchman Henry Roy's influential photography. There is something to behold in his beautiful works and the folks at The Spring Press concur, they've published a hardcover retrospective selection of the last nine years of his work.
