Pleasant, cute and edifying are not words used to describe the work of Adam Cullen. Garish, puerile and grotesque are closer to the mark. So it's no surprise that this attention-seeking bad boy has been enraging the art establishment with his dribbling, bogan-inspired canvasses and Archibald success. And that's pretty much why we love him.
Cullen is enchanted by the ugliest aspects of Australian culture - racism, sexism and Daryl Somers. He's determined to reflect life back at us with vicious honesty and humour so black it aches. Expect to see a bunch of sodomised whores, tortured losers, bloodied animals and tormented public figures. In other words, perfect material for a breezy first date.
