The last time I was at the Maritime Museum I was four years old and had a vegemite sandwich stolen out of my Power Ranger backpack.
Despite the sad memories, I recently decided to return (pledging to keep a vigilant eye on my lunch). It seems facing your demons pays off, in the form of two exhibitions currently on show.
FROM TRASH TO TREASURE comprises a selection of wonderful souvenirs from around the world. Highlights include an entire cabinet of snow domes, and a section dedicated exclusively to souvenirs from Queensland (trash or treasure? You decide).
BATEAUX JOUETS: TOY BOATS FROM PARIS 1850 - 1950 is the other temporary show, made up of painstakingly crafted old boats from, well, Paris. The museum of all things maritime also has volunteer model boat makers working on their miniature watercrafts, snapshots of the nation's nautical history and a first rate shop that stocks all sorts of interesting, but largely useless, boatish things.
