Video Art will appear on the sports screens at the NSW Sports Association Bar. Enormous banners by young artists will be strung from executive blocks. Attempts by the City of Sydney to inject more cultural life into Sydney's CBD of late haven't been as well considered or executed as we've hoped. Council-funded public art initiatives often overlook the fact that at times, a city's cultural life needs to grow organically, from the ground up. But for its DOWNTOWN project, Clover turned to some of the best: the guys at Firstdraft gallery. Their current directors selected the array of young artists involved in this intriguing series of installations, performances and exhibitions centred around some of the inner city's forgotten spaces.
