I'm not a gusher. I'm not an air kisser. I'm not a quaffer of white wine or a scenester. In fact, I pretty much lack all the distinguishing characteristics you'd associate with someone who writes about art. What I do have are two blinking eyes and a desperate love for true creativity and I reckon that's mos def all you need to get into all the cool arty farty stuff going down in our pretty city.
Over the last 18 months I've seen exhibitions that span the spectrum from extremely brave (WORLD PRESS PHOTOS 2007 at the State Library) to extremely boobie (10-foot-tall fake tits at The Arthouse). But one show stands out in my mind as something really special: DEL KATHRYN BARTON at Kaliman Gallery.
Carnal, kaleidoscopic and fantastically freaky, Del's vampiric heroines blossomed with an alien splendour that made my hair stand on end. Can't wait to discover what brain-blowingly rad stuff comes out of her hat in the next 100 issues.
