Cong hei fat choi!

Shanghai-based brush and ink painter, animator, video/installation artist and sculptor Qiu Anxiong gathers a selection of his video works for a one-night only screening at Cinema Alley, 4A's street cinema initiative.

Amongst the exhibition of works shown will be NOSTALGIA, which was filmed in Sichuan province prior to the earthquakes of last year. With an unsettling style Qiu depicts contemporary China in a state of frenetic transition, caught up in relentless cycles of destruction and construction.

On one level, the images are those of China's idyllic landscapes, which any traveller might witness. On the other, the agricultural scenes are riddled with the signs of encroaching urbanisation.

Post the Peking brilliance of Chinese New Year, Qiu's contemplation of the world in renewal comes at a poignant moment.
