DARREN SYLVESTER, IF ALL WE HAVE IS EACH OTHER, THAT'S OK, 2003-2004
With titles like ‘If It Hasn't Happened For You', ‘Maybe It Never Will' or ‘Learn To Adjust', ‘Learn To Get Over It', many assume Melbourne photographer Darren Sylvester is drawing on angst or pessimism, but he insists he's just being realistic...
Art people try to say I'm giving some hidden meaning or critique, but my images are straightforward...The art world might think people don't eat KFC, but I don't think that's true. People eat stuff from KFC and Subway, and I'm just reflecting that.
‘Anyone who thinks my work is a critique of consumerism is out of step with the real world' is the title of a talk Darren is giving on Thursday night at the ACP, coinciding with the 10-year survey of his work currently on show.
