Rince is not your average gallery space. Set up like a loft, smaller than a toilet block, with every spare inch covered in canvas - it's a far cry from the careful curation that defines many art platforms.

The same cry extends from framework to function. At Rince, any artist, working across any discipline, can bring in their work. Owner Louella is adamant that all canvases will have a place on the gallery walls and no one will be turned away. For 10 days of each month, the space will be devoted to just one artist, and the rest of the time moonlight as a revolving space for local work. All pieces are priced according to the materials used and craftsmanship, with a percentage of sales going towards the rent.

Louella plans to filter out art to other spaces (she currently looks after Lounge in Goulburn Street and Darlinghurst's Barrio) with the aim of getting artists noticed. "I don't think people should have to go to a gallery and pay to exhibit," she says. "It's not about earning money, it's about doing something that you really love." Right on.

*This Friday, Brisbane artist Josh Thorsen launches Rince's first 10-day exhibition, KID9: AN ISOLATED STATE. He's been painting like a demon for the past 10 days, so come by and witness his finished work, nosebleeds and all.
