There's something satisfying about effective juxtaposition. Consider deep-fried ice cream, or, on a more relevant note, the latest exhibition showing at the China Heights Gallery. ‘Scratching the Surface' sees Trent Edward's brooding, atmospheric seascapes sharing the gallery walls with Phil Harkness' electric, youth-centric illustrations. The raw beauty of Edward's paintings are a stirring protest against environmental degradation, whilst Harkness, who fancies himself "like Batman but way more heroic", fizzes with angsty rebellion. - JB
