MODULAR
Being signed to Modular could be likened to being born into a family of over achievers, laden from conception with the burden of expectation. Van She are the latest Modular signing and have just released a six track self-titled EP which is like a Nike high-top wedged in the door of the rock-pop-electronic-synthesised world inhabited by likes of Cut Copy and The Presets.
The EP has all the elements you expect, danceable with a pinch of melancholy, cinematic yet not self-indulgent, a pastiche without too much of the past and contains sounds from 80s post-punk to M83, and ‘Sex City’ and ‘Survives’ has an undeniable likeness to Tom Vek. So regardless of expectation, and dismissing comparisons to their peers, Van She have produced a solid EP. It is thoughtful, perhaps calculated, but nevertheless it is music to style your hair to.
