I'm a member of a book club. There. I said it.
Although the mere mention of it draws laughter, shame and definite sense bewilderment from people...I'm not afraid to say I'm a nerd and proud. If nothing else it's forced me to use my brain for something other than counting the amount of beers I had after a big night out and that can't be such a bad thing.
The first and only book that we have read so far is SLAUGHTERHOUSE 5 by Kurt Vonnegut. Almost everyone else only got half way through but I managed to power-read the entire thing (just before the group got together) and loved it!
Written in 1969, this is a cult classic due to its timeless themes of war, ecology, overpopulation and consumerism, which are just as relevant today as they were to the peace-loving, spaced-out kids in the ‘60s.
With a bizarre and twisted plot that reverts back and forth through time, the book follows main character Billy Pilgrim, who was left mentally disturbed by the WWII bombings in Dresden. Things start to get a little kooky and when Billy is abducted by spacecraft to the planet Tramalfador, put in a zoo, forced to strip naked and copulate in front of hundreds of on-looking Tramalfadorians. "So it goes"....Format: Book
Motivation: Good with a whiskey in the bath
