A few years ago on a road trip down the South Coast, my friends and I stumbled upon a place called 'Fun Land'. Obviously we stopped, awed by the audacity. A land of fun? In Ulladulla? Please. We'll show YOU fun, people-who-live-outside-of-Sydney. We emerged hours later, spent, and in one unfortunate case, splattered with vomit. Fun Land showed us what was what, and we still talk about our experience there in hushed tones.
Rarely one to learn from my mistakes, I entered 2nd Hand Land with a similar bravado. My thoughts on my way there went something like, "Blah blah, vintage shirts, jokey old books and hats. Bought that, pointed at that. Did somebody say 'South Newtown'?" But once again, I got served.
Straight up, I spotted an Alf doll, in mint condition! Then I noticed the clothes rack contained not a single piece of filler. Then I stumbled backwards into a generous record display, and fell in love with a miniature piano pencil sharpener.
Usually when vintage shopping you have to make a choice: spend hours trawling through racks of crud and hope to stumble upon a find, or pay dearly to have someone else do it for you. 2nd Hand Land gives you the best of both worlds.
